Soft Landing in a Hard Place

Presented at the UAE Designer Exhibition 5.0, Dubai Design Week 2025

Soft Landing in a Hard Place reimagines the wall hook as an object of tactile solace and emotional resonance. This collection transforms a mundane utility into a gentle gesture — soft, organic forms that offer reprieve within the rigid geometry of contemporary living spaces.

Each hook in the collection is sculpted with rounded, pillow-like volumes that invite touch and suggest tenderness. Rendered in a palette of muted pastels — dusty pink, powdery green, warm ochre — the pieces evoke a sense of joyful domesticity, standing in quiet contrast to the hard surfaces and sharp angles that dominate modern interiors. The title speaks to the duality of our built environment: the need for moments of softness and play within spaces that often feel unforgiving.

Exhibited at Downtown Design as part of Dubai Design Week's 10th anniversary edition (November 5-10, 2025), the collection was showcased alongside 30 emerging UAE-based designers exploring themes of comfort and function. Soft Landing in a Hard Place embodies the exhibition's vision of creating emotionally resonant objects that are tactile, physically comforting, and thoughtfully contemporary — design that doesn't just hang your coat, but welcomes you home.
